First Nations / Inuit
The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program provides coverage for counselling sessions to address immediate mental health needs. To be eligible for this coverage, the client must be a resident of Canada and either a First Nations person who is registered under the Indian Act (commonly referred to as a status Indian), or an Inuk recognized by an Inuit land claim organization. Residential School Survivors
The Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program (IRS RHSP) provides former residential school students and their families, regardless of status or place of residence within Canada, with coverage for counselling sessions. The Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) provides limited, temporary coverage of health-care benefits to resettled refugees and refugee claimants.
